About Dezraye Choi

I am passionate about helping horses thrive as competitive jumpers, hunters, and equitation horses. My well-rounded education has included natural horsemanship, dressage, American equitation, and working in Europe and I draw from these experiences every day. I enjoy working with my horses in a variety of ways including flatwork, lunging, trail riding and pole/grid work to create engaged, balanced, strong horses that over time are able to achieve their full potential. Each horse is valued for their individual strengths and personality and their entire training and care program is designed specifically for them. I have successfully produced many young horses and competed at the upper levels of the sport in the Grand Prix, International Hunter Derbies, and trained Medal Finals winners.

As a coach, my goal is to create independent, thinking riders and to help you develop your skills as you progress up the levels. I want to share my horse-centric approach to training while allowing you the room and space to flourish and create your own system of communication with your horses. Many of my riders have demonstrated their consistency and earned year-end awards at the local and national level while becoming horsemen and horsewomen who are truly dedicated to the health and welfare of their horses.

“Dez has been such a blessing for our family! She trains our two daughters (ages 13 and 16), along with our 5-year-old warmblood and is also helping us through all that it takes to shop for another horse. Dez has an incredible depth of knowledge and looks at the rider and horse both individually and as a team. She is really in tune with what the horse may be experiencing and how to best progress forward. She cares so much and works tirelessly to come up with the best plans for each rider/horse team. When training horses, Dez is able to get the very best out of each horse and we are amazed at the progress our horse has made in his training. My daughters' horsemanship and riding have grown so much under Dez and they look forward to every opportunity with her. There is no one we trust and admire more!”

“My daughter and I were so very fortunate to luck into meeting Dez when we were referred to her during a horse show.  We were attending shows on our own with my daughter’s wonderful but limited first jumper and we needed guidance to find her next horse and help her move forward with her riding.  Dez could not have been more welcoming and accommodating; she made it possible for my daughter to develop her riding and to ride to her potential.  She went out of her way to make things work for us even though we live and have our horses at our own facility a fair distance away.  Dez came to our place to help the riders there (when I asked her if she would teach beginners she told me, "I will help anyone who wants to ride", a philosophy by which she still lives!).  She found my daughter’s next wonderful horse, and coached her to success at home and at shows.  She then hooked us up with yet another wonderful equine friend/partner to make the next step happen.  Dez works long hours at shows as well as at home to keep horses and riders in top form, striving to reach their goals.  She's not done with her day until everyone else is tucked in, horse and human alike.  She puts everyone else's well-being before her own.  My daughter would not be where she is without Dez!”
